This month it was cold and the landscape was bare, so we didn’t try our luck at harvesting. Instead we stayed in the warm and made stuff. We produced turmeric and black pepper capsules using the school’s Nukraft 100 capsule machine, this video shows you how we did it….

We also tried our hands at making old-fashioned pills, in this case ‘digestive pills’ to calm dysbiosis – all the herb powders we put in are specific for the digestive system and are much easier for some people to take than tinctures. I found a video to show the students how a professional does it, and we managed quite well, though we didn’t coat the finished pills in talcum powder as the pharmacist in the video did. Instead we thought arrowroot was a healthier option…

Who knew how satisfying it would be to spend an afternoon making suppositories and pessaries. The suppositories were slightly larger and one batch contained herbs to treat an inflamed bowel, and the other batch contained herbs to treat an enlarged prostate. We also made two batches of pessaries, one to treat vaginal dryness, the other to treat vaginal thrush.

So, the next post will be after our Easter School when we end a week of seminars with a guest speaker. This year we are really looking forward to Stuart FitzSimons MNIMH spending a whole day talking to the students about medicinal mushrooms.
